Illustrious domestic and international  cardiovascular specialists will give brilliant lectures on treatments on sudden death in public, early warning of non-Invasive electrocardiology, prevention of sudden death among patients suffering myocardiac infarction and heart failure, application of ICD and CRT-D and evaluation of possibilities of genetic antiarrhythmic.

CT Coronary Angiogram Accreditation Course

The forum is mainly focused on Cardiac Imaging Modalities, including Basics of Coronary CTA
, Commonly Encountered Artifacts, Safety and Complications, Radiation Protection in Cardiac CT, Protocols in Cardiac CTA, Data Analysis and Reconstruction and Interpretation of Cases

Practical tips and guidelines as well as commonly encountered pitfalls and artifacts in Cardiac and vascular CT topics will be covered during the course. To facilitate understanding of the principles covered in the lectures, there will be small groups of hands-on workshops on workstations which will be run by the major vendors with concurrent live cases. In this session you will be able to practice on the workstations and diagnose at least 10 cases, depending on your individual pacing, and the correlate your findings with conventional angiogram.
In order to keep up with the rapidly evolving technology we need to continually upgrade our skills in the use and application of these technologies. This conference is uniquely designed to meet the different needs of the participants. Our practical sessions will be divided into 2 groups:
Group A: (Radiologists and Cardiac Physicians):
•     This session will allow you to explore new technologies and techniques discussed in the morning sessions.
•     Practical hands-on workshops will reinforce the learning and allow you to explore the different techniques discussed as well as diagnose the cases presented with conventional angiogram correlation.
Group B: (Radiographers and Nurses):
•     Acquire the fundamental knowledge and techniques involved in this discipline.
•     Exposure to technical aspect of the discipline; patient preparation, acquisition of images, reconstruction, filming, burning data sets in CDs.
At the end of the course you will acquire the necessary knowledge and tools in the interpretation of CCTA including exposure to the most up-to date technology and support services available by the major vendors.  More importantly you will also be able to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the different workstations provided by the different CT companies, while simultaneously expanding your knowledge and ability to manipulate images on a workstation.

This conference is equivalent to attaining ACCF/AHA level 1 certification in Cardiac CT and will be followed by another conference in 2009 for level 2 certification.

The German side of the report are from German per capita well-known large-scale hospitals, with a wealth of clinical experience; internationally renowned Leipzig Heart Center Schuler Professor of the Heart Center in Berlin, Germany, Professor Fleck, Germany Pakistan the heart of the work of the Center Dr. Yu Jiangtao, well-known Chinese-heart surgery expert Professor Weng Yu, European Hindricks well-known professor from the all-Chinese counterparts to offer a rich Professional dinner, and will expand further Beijing Great Wall international cardiovascular disease congress's influence, promoted the Chinese cardiovascular disease enterprise's high speed development, simultaneously China and Germany will promote in cardiovascular disease domain's exchange to a higher level.
UMN Heart Forum at GWICC 008

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Minnesota (UMN) consists of over 50 faculty members at 4 major teaching hospitals at Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, providing all aspects of modern cardiac care. Recently, aggressive application of complex arrhythmia ablation, percutaneous coronary interventions, ventricular mechanical assist devices, treatment of pulmonary hypertension, and stem cell interventions are among the more advanced aspects of the division's capabilities.
The UMN Cardiovascular program was the first in the USA to build its own Heart Hospital in the late 1940’s.  The cardiovascular care was often centered on the pre-operative evaluation and post-operative care of patients being treated by notable surgeons such as Dr Owen Wangensteen, Dr C Walton and Richard Lillehei, and Dr Richard Varco. As the cardiovascular specialty evolved to include coronary disease surgery and heart failure, the Cardiovascular Division grew in importance. Dr Howard Burchell was recruited to be the Chief in the early 1970's.  Dr Jay Cohn, the noted innovator of after-load reduction treatment concept for heart failure, and then Dr Leslie Miller, another well-known heart failure expert, took over after Dr Burchell’s retirement.
The Division, currently under the leadership of Dr Daniel Garry, is strengthening its commitment to education and basic and translational research.  The education focus incorporates an active Cardiovascular Training program with approximately 25 trainees in Cardiovascular Medicine, Electrophysiology, and Coronary Intervention.
Over the last few years, the UMN has been one of the important sponsors of the Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology (GWICC). Organized by Dr Fei Lü and Dr David Benditt in co-operation with Professor Dayi Hu and Professor Changsheng Ma, this year’s UMN Heart Forum will continue providing an update in daily cardiology practice. The subspecialty faculty members will present their broad experience on different topics in contemporary cardiovascular medicine during the one-day program. The morning session focuses on cardiac electrophysiology and pacing. The afternoon session covers coronary artery disease and interventions, congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac surgery, and cardiac research. The potential audiences who are interested in cardiac arrhythmias will benefit in historical development of cardiac electrophysiology and pacing, current status of management of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, disputable issues on pacemaker and ICD implantation, and panel discussion of challenging ablation cases. In the afternoon session, the lectures will provide an executive summary in bioenergetic abnormalities in the failing heart, trends and challenges in the management of STEMI, update on drug eluting stent and CABG, and current strategies for management of congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.
The invited speakers include several distinguished UMN faculty members (such as Professor David G. Benditt and Professor Robert J. Bache) as well as worldwide well-known visiting professors of the UMN, such as Professor Richard Sutton from London, England.  More than 20 experts in cardiovascular medicine throughout China will also participate in the UMN Heart Forum this year.

CnAHA@GWICC

In 19th GW-ICC, there is a Chinese American Heart Association (CnAHA) and GW-ICC joint forum titled “Heart Failure: Practice Evidence-based Medicine”. Seven Chinese-origin cardiologists who are practicing medicine in the United States will give presentation, and this session is moderated by experienced clinicians from Mainland China.
As well known, heart failure is a growing medical problem globally. One contributor is population aging.  The other one is that considerable number of acute MI patients who were saved by modern technology would unfortunately develop heart failure later. The impact of heart failure is not only medically but also socially and economically. Although new devices and novel surgical techniques have been emerging recently. The medical treatment for heart failure remains to be a mainstream. First presentation of this session focuses on optimizing medical regiment to improve patient outcome. Echocardiography plays an important role in diagnosis, management and predicting outcome of heart failure. This topic will be covered. Diastolic heart failure is a challenge issue in daily practice due to lack of long term management data.  The current status of diastolic failure will be discussed. Arrhythmia is frequently seen in heart failure patients. Malignant arrhythmia often causes sudden cardiac death in this population. This issue will be addressed. The newer technology such as cardiac MRI will be touched. Cardiac MRI is a gold standard to identify viable myocardium in ischemic cardiomyopathy. Revascularization definitively improves prognosis of these patients. Stem cell research carries a hope for heart failure. Now there is compelling evidence from pre-clinical experiments suggesting stem cell could regenerate myocytes to recover failing heart function. In the mean time, clinical trials using stem cell to treat heart failure are on the horizon. Two cardiologists experienced in this field will give their presentation.  In this session, the format of presentation is from case report to evidence-based medicine, which may be more practical for the purpose of education. In addition, the moderators are from Mainland China, which could result in an interesting discussion how to implement the successful clinical experience from western countries to China.
