Dear Colleagues: It is our privilege and honor to be with you here today at this great venue. We are very excited to be participating with you at the 20th Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology and are grateful to Dr. Dayi Hu and the organizing committee for the hospitality and kind invitations that have been extended to the members of the American College of Cardiology. With a view to maintaining and fostering a spirit of healthcare cooperation across the Pacific Rim, we are pleased |
| to share the most important advances arising from ACC 2009 and I2 that were held this year in Orlando, Florida. In this connection, we are committed to sharing our cardiology education with you in terms of the knowledge, skill, and competence gained during the past 60 years of the College. We hope that this compact and concise program of our annual scientific sessions meets the needs of the growing practice of cardiology in your country. Our college represents 37,000 cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular nurses, pharmacologists, and practice administrators. Over 4000 of our members reside outside of the United States. We are a professional organization committed to improving cardiovascular care for people throughout the world. As you know, cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in the United States and cardiovascular disease is an important reason for rising morbidity and mortality in China. Both of our respective countries are joined by these similar challenges. However, it is our aim that by further disseminating our most recent knowledge about cardiovascular care, we can contribute to the improvement of cardiovascular patient outcomes in this region of the world. Likewise, the lectures that you will hear represent the best of evidence based cardiovascular science. During the next few days, I am confident that this conference will be most fruitful and productive as we learn and dialogue in the exchanges that we have between each other. Lastly, let us also build upon our excellent existing relationship and continue this program of collaboration that ultimately benefits your patients in China and ours in the USA. Congratulations Great Wall !" |
