Jan Staessen
Jan Staessen heads the Studies Coordinating Centre of the Hypertension Unit, Department of Cardiovascular Diseases, University of Leuven, Belgium. Dr Staessen is a member of a number of professional societies, including the International Society of Hypertension, the European Society of Hypertension, and the European Society of Cardiology. He is also an International Fellow of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research of the American Heart Association. In addition, he is an advisor to several international scientific bodies and regulatory organizations, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Union. Dr Staessen’s research interests focus on the genetics and treatment of hypertension. He is currently a partner in the Ingenious Hyper Care European Network of Excellence and coordinates the Joint Research Package on the genetic and environmental determinants of renal sodium handling in relation to hypertension and heart failure. He leads the IDACO research consortium studying the role of ambulatory blood pressure measurement in the stratification of cardiovascular risk. He has published over 540 papers in peer-reviewed journals and continues to serve on the editorial board of several top-ranking medical journals. |
