Professor Mario de Camargo Maranhao is the past-President of the World Heart Federation. Since 1972 professor Maranhao has been an active member of various organizations, such as the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the French, Portuguese and Spanish Societies of Cardiology. Professor Maranhao is also a member of many craniological associations in Brazil and Latin America. He has been Professor of Cardiology at the Evangelic School of Medicine and Hospital in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil for the last 30 years and currently is head of the Cardiovascular Department.

He is an invited reviewer for several journals, including Circulation, Hypertension, Annuals of Biomedical Engineering, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, etc. |
